Chapter 8 explains different ways to design and present arguments. It is relevant to our multimodal assignment because it introduces basic considerations when forming any argument and also talks specifically about multimodal montages. In order to design our project we need to establish and argument, consider our audience, decide the specific multimodal medium with which to present the argument, and figure out the form or layout of our project. Specifically for multimodal projects, the chapter explains that the purpose is also important. The chapter also discusses how writing has changed with new advances in technology that allow people many options as far as how they want to present a rhetorical argument. This is relevant to our project because we have to narrow down which medium we want to use and decide how to most effectively display our argument in order to fulfill the purpose. Following the guidelines in chapter 8 will help us design a persuasive rhetorical argument for our project. The chapter also mentions that the way that people “understand language, argument, and persuasion continues to evolve” so we need to consider this in order to make our project interesting, relevant, understandable, and persuasive for our audience. The main emphasis is on the argument, audience, medium, form, and purpose for design arguments so our project should start with those.
